The Start Up Oil on Canvas | 128 cm x 112 cm

Two start up entrepreneurs rises towards certainty in pursuit of realising their vision. Resistance to this rising motion is generated by the interactions with the other characters present.
I've painted a client assisting the Entrepreneurs. The client stands with his back to the light, a position which prevents clear visibility ahead. Further more a family member undergoes the pressure of providing uplifting support in what may be an act of her blind faith.
A forward facing lawyer and a competitor, both with reaching arms, portrays a hindering interaction. Their arms direct the viewer’s gaze up towards the near angelic glow of the entrepreneur’s shirt, giving the pretence that the entrepreneur can do no wrong. He stares into the light in belief that he sees everything.
The outline of the subjects was inspired by Joe Rosenthal's 1945 photograph, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, a reflection of success. In addition the orange colour donned by the Entrepreneurs symbolise the secure branding of Centre of Entrepreneurial Learning.
